Underfloor heating control for 4 zones

Four-zone underfloor heating control suits larger apartments and single-storey homes where the living room, bedrooms, bathroom and home office have different routines. Independent thermostats give each important space its own temperature and schedule.

04 Room control

Four zones are a practical layout for a larger apartment or single-storey house. They allow the living room, main bedroom, child’s room and bathroom or office to operate independently without making the system unnecessarily complicated.

Four-zone underfloor heating control is especially useful where rooms have different solar gain, occupancy patterns or comfort requirements.

Example 4-zone layout

  • Zone 1: living room + dining area;
  • Zone 2: main bedroom;
  • Zone 3: child’s room / second bedroom;
  • Zone 4: bathroom or home office.

Why 4 zones offer more flexibility

In a larger property, one thermostat becomes an increasing compromise. A living room with large windows may respond very differently from a bedroom, while a bathroom may need a completely different schedule.

4 zones do not mean 4 heating loops

A large living room may use three loops and still be one temperature zone. One thermostat can therefore control three thermal actuators.

Example: one living-room zone with 3 loops

One temperature and one thermostat, but three manifold loops and three actuators. That is why the design must consider zones and loops together.

Q20 Wireless or Q10 for 4 zones

Q20 · WIRELESS
Q20 Wireless four-zone control

Q20 Wireless

Practical in a finished home where new thermostat cables are not desirable.

  • Q20 / Q30 thermostats;
  • 8-zone controller;
  • NC actuators;
  • eHub for app access.

Q10 · WIRED
Q10 wired four-zone control

Q10 wired

Fits naturally into a new build or full renovation where thermostat cables can be installed in advance.

  • Q10 / Q40 / Q50 thermostats;
  • 8-zone controller;
  • fixed wired communication;
  • pump and heat-source demand control.

Thermostats for a 4-zone system

Each independent zone will normally have its own room thermostat. Use Q20 / Q30 wireless thermostats with Q20, or Q10 / Q40 / Q50 wired thermostats with Q10.

Energy control without fixed savings claims

Four separate zones make it possible to use different temperatures and schedules. This does not guarantee a fixed percentage reduction, but it can help reduce heating in rooms when full comfort is not required.

  • bedrooms lower during the day;
  • living room lower overnight;
  • bathroom warmer only at selected times;
  • office matched to working hours.

2–3, 4 or 5–6 zones?

For a more compact apartment, see the 2–3 zone guide. For a larger or multi-storey house, continue to the 5–6 zone guide.

Frequently asked questions

Do 4 zones require 4 thermostats?

If all four zones need independent control, normally yes.

Do 4 zones mean 4 actuators?

No. Actuator count depends on the number of heating loops.

Is Q20 suitable for a finished apartment?

Yes, especially when you do not want to install new thermostat cables.

Is Q10 suitable for a new house?

Yes, thermostat wiring can be planned during construction.

Can a living room with 3 loops remain one zone?

Yes. One thermostat can control several actuators assigned to the same zone.

Design 4 zones around rooms and loops

Define the rooms first, then the heating loops and actuator count. Choose thermostats and the controller after the physical layout is clear.

Choose wireless or wired underfloor heating control

Q20 Wireless is practical for finished and renovated homes where you do not want to run new thermostat cables. Q10 is the wired option for new builds and full renovations.
